Job Overview:

As the Director of Youth Coaching at The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, you will lead the charge in developing a premier coaching program while advancing our athletics department to excellence. You will emphasize children's growth and skill development from 12 months to 12 years through coaching programs that are both enriching and age-appropriate. In addition to coaching, a key aspect of your role will be training and empowering a staff of coaches, ensuring they have the tools and support to deliver exceptional experiences. This position calls for a strong coaching background, commitment to youth development in athletics, exceptional leadership abilities, and a visionary approach to coaching youth and training staff.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build a leveled youth athletics program that includes skill progression, instills a love for sports at an early age, and provides a pathway for aspiring young athletes to excel in sports through structured coaching and developmental milestones.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching curriculum for youth sports programs for children ages 12 months to 12 years.
  • Lead recreational and skill-building classes for younger children, ensuring foundational techniques are taught in a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Conduct classes for older children with a focus on gameplay, strategy, and advanced skills development
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth among youth participants.
  • Communicate regularly with families to update them on their child's progress and program developments.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of youth coaches and assistant coaches, and provide ongoing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the community center to coordinate scheduling, facility usage, and program logistics.
  • Create a collaborative team culture that encourages mutual respect, open communication, and continuous learning among coaches, athletes, and families, ensuring a supportive environment where everyone works together towards shared goals of personal growth and team success.
  • Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of coaching programs through feedback, surveys, and performance metrics.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in youth coaching, sports psychology, and child development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Education, Psychology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in coaching youth sports, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and the ability to apply them in a sports coaching context.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate youth athletes and coaches alike.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive environment.
  • Certification in coaching from a recognized sports association is preferred.
  • First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Salary Range: Minimum $65,000 - Maximum $70,000
