The Memory Project, curated by the Wechsler Center for Modern Aging at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, is dedicated to providing valuable support and engagement to individuals experiencing mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers. Our programs are designed to foster a sense of community, alleviate isolation, and deliver essential resources for both individuals with memory challenges and their loved ones.


We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Memory Care Instructor to facilitate programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals experiencing mild to moderate memory loss. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of memory care practices, be able to create an engaging and supportive environment and work closely with caregivers to provide meaningful activities that promote cognitive well-being and emotional resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structured memory care programs and activities tailored to individuals experiencing mild to moderate memory loss, focusing on cognitive stimulation, social engagement, and emotional support.

  • Design and implement programs that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction, including activities such as arts and crafts, music, reminiscence therapy, and gentle exercises.

  • Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere that empowers participants, helping to break the barriers of isolation.

  • Provide guidance and support to caregivers, offering tools, resources, and strategies to improve their well-being and understanding of memory care.

  • Assess participant progress and provide feedback, ensuring that the programs are adjusted to meet individual needs and abilities.

  • Collaborate with fellow staff members, volunteers, and other professionals to develop innovative and engaging programming.

  • Offer individualized support and connect participants to additional resources when necessary, such as referrals to healthcare providers or community services.

  • Maintain accurate records of participant engagement, program effectiveness, and feedback from participants and caregivers.

  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all program participants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, gerontology, nursing, or a related field.

  • Certification or training in memory care, dementia care, or similar fields is highly preferred.

  • Prior experience working with individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's, or other memory-related conditions, and a solid understanding of their unique needs.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals experiencing memory loss and their caregivers.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to explain complex topics in a clear and approachable way.

  • Passion for working in the non-profit sector and a commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by memory loss.

  • Ability to adapt programs and approaches based on participant needs and feedback.

  • Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor are essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work some evenings or weekends, depending on program schedule.
