POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Children's Wearable Arts Instructor

Department: Center for Family Life

Reports to: Yael Kahn Pinto, Director, Center for Family Life

FLSA Status: Exempt

Date: 2/21/23


Job Overview:

The Center for Family Life seeks an experienced, highly creative, passionate, and reliable arts educator to lead after school Jewelry Making and/or Fashion Design classes for children ages 5-12 years. Candidates should possess curiosity and understanding, if not deep knowledge, of jewelry making and/or clothing design and execution, with a commitment to helping children develop their artistic skills and knowledge through hands-on inquiry.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about educating children in the arts and will be a skilled communicator, guided by a desire to listen to and speak compassionately with both children and adults. This instructor will honor children as independent, capable thinkers through child-directed and experiential approaches to learning.

This position will begin in September 2023.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to students, and demonstrate proper handling of art materials, tools, and equipment, including cleanup
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the students' varying needs, interests, and developmental levels
  • Prepare and teach sequential skill-building class activities, with room for individualized study based on children's levels and interests
  • Prepare art materials and classroom

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years relevant teaching experience
  • Knowledge of a variety of art styles, illustration, equipment, and terminology
  • Availability one or two afternoon weekdays, between 3:00 and 6:00

Hourly Range: $65-$85/session, commensurate with experience
