Job Overview:
The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan is seeking a part-time Tween + Teen Program Coordinator to build a vibrant tween and teen community within the MMJCCM community, creating a contiguous JCC experience from the early childhood years through high school graduation.
The primary responsibility of the Coordinator will be to develop, implement and staff tween and teen programs aimed at cultivating purpose, connection, community and creativity. The ideal candidate has a background in child development (social work, psychology, education), Jewish service learning and a strong understanding of mental health.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Together with the Senior Director, Teen + Young Adult Mental Health Initiative, create a full calendar of events, programs and classes focused on Jewish social justice, volunteerism, creativity, fun and social emotional wellness.
- Develop curriculum and implement programs focused on service learning and volunteerism that address local challenges like educational inequity and food insecurity in measurable ways.
- Build relationships with teens/tweens and their parents as a mentor seeding deeper engagement in the teen community.
- Create fun, meaningful and inclusive spaces that support mental wellness.
- Communicate directly with families and tweens/teens.
- Day to day administration of tween and teen programs including data entry, room requests, tracking budgets, ordering supplies, room set-up and clean-up.
- Developing relationships with other JCC departments and external organizations including, but not limited to local Jewish Day Schools, public schools and synagogues.
- Collaborate with the JCC marketing department to advertise programs.
- Actively participate in the Children + Family Team and overall JCC staff team and collaborate with the JCC BBYO Chapter and Manhattan region.
- Partner with the Senior Director, Teen + Young Adult Mental Health Initiative to deep dive into the local teen landscape and learn from strong programming throughout the country in order to craft meaningful and attractive opportunities for the Jewish and general population that is appealing to this age group
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to be engaging, thoughtful, creative, flexible, emotionally attuned when supporting or leading programming
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
- Enthusiasm for learning about the teen brain, teen engagement, social emotional learning and Jewish social service
- College degree preferred
- Master's degree or working toward a degree in social work or other related field preferred
- Background in experiential Jewish education
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with teens in an after school program, camp or other informal education setting
Hourly Range: 25 hours weekly at a rate of $24-$28/hr, commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Location and Commitments:
- In person at Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan
- During the school-year the position is Mon-Thurs afternoons and evenings 2-7 PM or 3-8 PM and Sunday 10 AM - 6 PM
- Some Saturday afternoons, especially January-March
- Possible holidays or Friday nights for specific programs
- Flexible schedule during the summer
