Job Overview:

At the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, we are committed to building a more just, inclusive and equitable world. Through our Joseph Stern Center for Social Responsibility (CSR), we partner with local nonprofits, synagogues, schools, and government officials to address social justice issues using strategies that include volunteer engagement, public education, resource sharing, coalition building and advocacy.


The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for our volunteer engagement and public education strategies - identifying, planning and delivering programming that has a measurable impact on issues like food insecurity, homelessness and educational inequity, providing community members with a deeper understanding of these issues, and building a community of individuals committed to working together to address them.



Responsibilities and Duties:

Lead CSR's volunteer engagement and public education strategies

  • Build and grow relationships with community partners including nonprofits, schools, government officials, synagogues and churches.
  • Identify, plan and deliver volunteer programming with community partners that has a measurable impact on local needs.
  • Plan and deliver public educational programs that provide community members with a deeper and more nuanced understanding of social justice issues and ways to address them.
  • Develop and implement strategies for delivering education on local needs within the context of volunteer experiences
  • Partner with the JCC development department to ensure sustainable funding for CSR's volunteer engagement and public education work.
  • Oversee finances for these strategies.

Build a community of individuals committed to social responsibility.

  • Serve as the JCC's main point of contact for individuals interested in social responsibility and volunteering.
  • Work closely with the JCC marketing department to promote CSR's volunteer engagement and public education work.
  • Manage volunteer recruitment, screening and onboarding for all CSR programming including the Koopersmith Family Literacy + Math program, which recruits and places highly trained volunteer tutors to provide free, one-on-one, academic support to students in public schools.
  • Track data on volunteer involvement using it to inform program development and acknowledge volunteer milestones.
  • Build relationships with program participants deepening their involvement with the JCC

Qualifications:.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years program design and management experience.
  • Track record of successfully developing and implementing volunteer engagement strategies
  • Track record of successful event management
  • History of involvement with social justice issues
  • Ability to think in a big picture way while also delivering on details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Location and Commitments: This role requires some evening and weekend work.
